The Biggest Lizard : The Crocodile Monitor

It is possible for many of us to think that Komodo dragons are the biggest lizards but this is not true. The largest lizards on our planet are the Crocodile Monitor Lizards. They are also the scarcest of all the monitor lizards. The correction to be made here is that Komodo dragons are the heaviest dragons of the world. Hence the crocodile monitor lizards are the longest lizards, while the komodo dragons are the heaviest lizards. The largest height of Komodo dragons ever recoded is 10 feet 2 inches and weigh an incredible 400 pounds, whereas Crocodile monitors reach an exorbitant height of 15 feet. There are various stories of crocodile monitors, which are nearly 20 feet long, have being seen in the core areas of the jungles in Papua New Guinea.

The crocodile lizards are not only the record holders for being the largest lizard but also for having the most humungous tail, the biggest claws, and the largest teeth among all the monitor lizards. True to its lizard species, the crocodile monitors have a habit of living on trees. The iguanodons are herbivores but crocodile monitors aren’t. They are flesh eaters and they use their extremely sharp teeth for killing and eating. The crocodile monitors are very mysterious creatures and their mysteries have to be solved by us. Apart from the Tyrannosaurus Rex, crocodile monitors are the only creatures in the world to have their upper teeth and lower teeth across each other. This extra-added feature gives them the power to rip and tear any kind of flesh as easily as snapping fingers. After hearing this we can be sure to avoid going anywhere near these creatures. In the sanctuaries where they are kept in groups, fights are surely going to occur due to their pent up energy.

Even though their bodies are strong their teeth manage to cause enough damage to their bodies. Various 4-5 inch deep gashes occur on them. While stitching these gashes even if we use strong needles they tend to break or become unusable are giving 4-5 stitches in their bodies. And think how soft human flesh is! Even a single bite by these creatures could prove fatal to us. It is a surprising fact but it is true that the crocodile monitors are very intelligent lizards. They also have a sharp eye out for everyone in their vicinity. So even if a prey is far, far away in another habitat they always have an eye on it, whatever be the circumstances. Of all the biggest animal, they are surely a fascination to many. This largest animal is something to see in action.

Their feeding behavior is very disgusting. This was discovered by a research group. They were going on about their eating habit which was done by a few scientists. They had installed a few web cameras in their natural habitat. Next comes the tail. The tail of the crocodile monitor is two-third the size of its body length. The tail is of no use up in the trees but it is in fighting, that lies its real use. When the fight becomes very difficult the crocodile monitor will use its tail to hit its opponent. This usually turns out to be very helpful to the creature.
